Scrap-Iron Scarecrow. Let's see what it does!

'Activate only when an opponent's monster declares an attack. Negate the attack, and Set this card face-down again instead of sending it to the Graveyard.'

Interesting card.

First off don't think it's a permanent wall to stop attacks.. Cuz remember, 'Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" cannot be activated again during the same turn, because it has been Set and Trap Cards cannot be activated in the turn they are set.'

So, I think this card is great in certain types of deck, specifically PACMAN control. [Pure Advantage Camels Munch All Noobs.]

It also works well in decks that set a lot and as a result must run Bribes and / or Magic Drain to prevent S/T destruction. Such decks include Skill Drain builds, and Macro Cosmos builds, or Macro Skill Drain builds! Also, this card is viable in Stun Spore, Gadgets, Burden, Stun, Garden, and many other defensively - oriented decks in the metagame.

The reason it works well? If you're playing decks with a low monster count, negating one attack per turn can be all you need to completely STOP there offense. For instance, imagine a stun deck, running 14-16 monsters. They will most likely only draw 1-2 monsters in the first few turns. Using a combination of BTH, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, and Bribes, you could -potentially- completely shut off their monsters, and this would allow you time to set up and gain card advantage which would ultimately be used to win the duel. Also, if it's not getting destroyed, due to protection from Bribes, then they're definitely not gonna get many attacks through.

This card isn't commonly seen in the meta due to better options like D-Prison Widespread Ruin and Sakuretsu Armor. These, as opposed to stalling the threat, completely remove it. Also, cards like BTH and Threatening Roar are more preferred due to how they can be chained to the summons of cards like Breaker, Black Rose Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, and JD.

I hope this helped you gain a greater understanding of the card "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow."

Thanks for reading.

this is an awesome card! if only the format were slower.

what's great about it isn't a simple "negate attack," it's the synergy it has with about every card in the rest of your deck, especially if yours is a deck that needs set-up. and of course, pacman is a very good use of this card, with des lacooda and swarm of scarabs to keep their monsters off the board.

many times, players have to position themselves before launching an attack, to make sure it will do what it's supposed to and not leave them vulnerable. the key to remember is that scarecrow doesn't just negate an attack, it negates the STRONGEST attack.

suppose you have a stratos on the field they summon lumina and use her effect to get jain, banking on the jain attack to go through and dealing more damage with lumina. but you flip scarecrow on the jain! now they're left with a vulnerable field, with an attack-position lumina ready for you to clean up next turn.

if you are using monarchs, that one negated attack can also mean your tribute fodder (dekoichi) is ready to go for a hurtful monarch play.

one of my favorite duelists, jae kim had a practice of making decks to illustrate theories and uses behind a card, i suppose i can do the same.

this is a deck i'll call "squatter," which "squats" on scarecrow to keep making advantage plays with gale and ehren...gale on summoned mosnters, and ehren on sets. when they think they can have an easy shot picking off a weak gale, surprise! the scarecrow says hi, then gale eats the monster they summoned. when they try to set, here comes ehren! hehe.

try it out!

monsters: 19
1 breaker
1 spirit reaper
2 mystic tomato
3 Blackwing gale
1 blackwing shura
1 blackwing blizzard
3 ehren
1 sangan
2 lumina
2 lyla
1 ryko
1 Plaguespreader

spells: 9
3 charge of the light brigade
2 solar recharge
1 monster reborn
1 brain control
1 mst
1 heavy storm

traps: 12
3 solemn judgment
1 trap dustshoot
1 mirror force
3 scrap-iron scarecrow
1 torrential tribute
1 icarus attack
1 bottomless trap hole
1 royal oppression

8 sworns, might as well run RANDOM JD. YEAH RANDOM OVERPOWERED CARDS.

;]

Good deck is good but I'd drop bth and dustshoot for 2 more oppressions. XD

It's pretty nifty.. great strategy. Only problem is s/t removal.. I think dark bribes would be in order, but might be bad this format..
