PostSubject: Monarchs Trouble   Fri Oct 02, 2009 10:07 am

If Monarchs have been removed from the field by card effects after they are tribute summoned, does the effects still activates.

For example, I tribute summon Zaborg, The Thunder Monarch. Then my opponent activates Compulsory Evacuation Device, does the effect of Zaborg still activates?

And for Kuraz the Light Monarch, what if the 2 chosen cards are chained? For example the 2 chosen cards, Wabokku and then chain the second card Compulsory Evacuation Device. What will be the complete scenario of the things. Will the opponent still draws a card from his deck?

Let me try to give it a try.

1.The effect of zaborg will still resolve because device is like bottomless in this occassion. So really he gets effect and then is returned back to hand.

2.Even if the 2 cards are chained theyre destroyed afterwards,so that means that he draws.

Someone confirm for me please.I hope I helped.

1. Zaborg's effect is MANDATORY. Only Monarchs without mandatory effects are Kuraz and Mobius.

Otherwise, you HAVE to use their effect unless Skill Drain is face up on the field.
Interesting thing to note is that if you use bottomless or something that's in response to a monarch's summon which makes it absent from the field upon it's effect's resolution, Skill Drain won't affect it.

2: When you first activate the effect, you select two targets. At this point your opponent main respond and chain if he wants to, but unless the monarch's summon is negated, or it's effect is negated, then the targeted cards will be destroyed whether chained or not. But if chained then the monarchs can't actually negate them, just destroy them which happens anyway.

So does it mean that if skill drain is active on the field, no Monarch effects can be activated????

Yes because the Monarch is face up on the field when it's effect resolves, and Skill Drain negates all monster effects ON THE FIELD. If your opponent activates Bottomless Trap Hole with Skill Drain out in response to your tribute summon of Zaborg, then Bottomless will resolve first removing Zaborg from play, and then Zaborg's mandatory effect will activate destroying one monster because Zaborg is removed from play which is an area that skill drain can't affect.
